How to Keep Your Vaping Resolution

Sadly, most New Year’s Resolutions don’t survive the month of January. Vaping resolutions fall victim to this tragic phenomena. Cheat days, lapses, unexpected stressors, and peer pressures drive us back to our old ways, often sooner than we’d like. If you really want to stick to your New Year’s Resolution this year, here’s what you need to do:

1. Be as specific as possible.

You have to name it to claim it. If your resolution is vague, it’s doomed to fail. “Cutting back” is a very loose goal, with tons of room to fail. You need to establish a metric for accounting your progress, success, and failures.

If you want to switch away from traditional cigarettes completely for your vaping resolution, be ready to use a numeric model. If you’re absolutist, and want a traditional cigarette-free year, write it down, in no uncertain terms! If you want to reduce your nicotine level, name where you want to be by January 1, 2018.

If this resolution is truly important to you, as it probably should be, write it in big, bold letters, someplace you’re sure to see. The mirror in the bathroom is a fine place for a sharpied post-it note.

2. Stick to a schedule.

Now that you’ve defined your resolution, it’s time to get organized. You might want to buy a calendar, if you’re old-fashioned. There are tons of productivity and scheduling apps for smart phones, spreadsheets for desktop computers, and fit-bits for behavior modification.

Once that schedule exists, make sure you stick to it! There is an added satisfaction for writing giant X’s over every day you’ve accomplished your goal. It’s a physical and visual reinforcement tool that helps keep you on target!

3. It’s not all-or-nothing.

We’re all humans. Sometimes temptation gets the best of us. The best way to botch a resolution is to throw up your hands at the first lapse, and give up on the entire resolution. Think of your vaping resolution as a journey. There’s nothing wrong with taking things a little slower, and easing into a resolution. Absolutism very rarely gets anything accomplished, and sometimes we have to make a few compromises.

If you mess up, get back on that horse!

4. Maintenance is key.

To achieve a long-term goal, you need to affirm yourself anew, and regularly. Whether it’s every day, every week, every month, or every year, you need to assess your progress. Make adjustments when needed, and get a feel for what is truly sustainable.

If you lose inspiration and momentum on a resolution, it’s your responsibility to get it back. Recharge, reassess, and recommit. Over and over again.

5. Find expertise and support.

Chances are, someone’s had your resolution before. How many people have pledged to lose weight, quit traditional cigarettes, and work out? Forums are a great place to read the trials and tribulations of those who share your resolution. There are support groups for obscure topics. Find a sense of community, and you’ll have a far greater chance of sticking to your resolution. It might be as simple as finding a vaping buddy.

I sincerely hope this list helps your achieve your vaping resolution. If you’ve already switched to vaping completely, maybe this list will help you achieve other New Year’s resolutions.

  1. Great suggestions listed! Before I actually walked completely away from regular cigarettes I was a “double-dipper”, I vaped & smoked at the same time. Smoked more than anything though. The one day I just decided I liked vaping much better. BIG HINT- You MUST find a juice that is something you would enjoy daily just as you did when you smoked. I did not smoke menthol at all but my #1 life & sanity saver is the Extreme Ice. I love peppermint flavors and they are very tough to find since most only offer menthol. This is a juice I have used now everyday for the past couple years. I have been vaping for almost 3 years now & have tried MANY different ecigs, mods, etc as well as ejuice suppliers. Mt Baker Vapor is the VERY best there is…hands down ! The choice to trash the smokes and begin vaping is aneasy choice….it does require some trial & tribulations to find your “right fit”. What seems good for others will not be your experience. IDEA- Purchase a few interesting juices that appeal to you (read the reviews, this does help) & then you will have a baseline & direction in what gives you the same satisfaction that smoking did. Remember, even if you never smoked menthol/peppermint…it may end up being your “go-to” like it did for me. I’d be glad to help anyone even if y’all just need a little support. This is a GREAT time to take advantage of the $1.88 15ml bottles though so you can purchase a variety. Vape On Friends ~ Nicole

  2. I never thought I’d be able to quit smoking until I found vaping. Idk why so many people hate on it, vaping straight up saves lives.

  3. Mount Baker is the best. Saves me maad $$. My reso was to stop paying 20 and15$ a bottle for 10cent PG AND VG and start helping the guys who are always there for us and don’t rip us off when we need some other part like a wick cotton or a coil. Thanks MBV. And thanks for the loyalty pts.. bla bla bla bla.. kiss kiss

  4. I don’t smoke cigarettes but i was smoking Black and Milds, which i feel is worse. I am 1 of the lucky people who can quit tobacco cold turkey, but i choose vaping because i realize it isn’t about the smoking for me. I think i am just so use to smoking that it doesn’t matter at this point if it is a vape or cigar. On the positive side, once i got back to vaping, i don’t need any cigars.

  5. The vape store I used to go to closed. So they gave me your info. I don’t know what I would do without Thug Juice and Black Ice. Really good flavors! I wish there were more menthol flavors! Thanks!

    1. Have you considered purchasing a big bottle of Menthol and mixing it in with any flavor you desire?? You can make anything you want minty! Menthol: goo.gl/KI9TrU
