Why Hydrate While Vaping

Have you noticed you get really thirsty while vaping, or have you noticed your mouth gets super dry when you are chain vaping? Well this is a common issue, so not to worry its not, you aren’t crazy, it is fairly common to get dehydrated while vaping, and today we will be going over how to avoid become parched, especially for those who live in arid environments.

Having cottonmouth or becoming dehydrated is an issue that all vapers are dealing with, especially if you are new to vaping this is something that will occur regularly until your bodies gets used to the intake of e-liquid. Now the culprit to blame for all of this lack of moisture is the Propylene Glycol that goes in your e-juice. Another name for this element is that it is a hygroscopic substance (tending to absorb moisture from the air) which basically means that it holds onto the water molecules and keeps your body from absorbing some them. Which can cause the human body to become dehydrated, have cotton mouth and as extreme as having dark circles under their eyes. There are examples of why this can be good. For example, if you have ever eaten cake and if was made correctly and was moist, that is the Propylene Glycol holding in the moisture and keeping the cake from drying out.

The obvious answer to this dilemma is to be constantly drinking water while you vape, as to avoid this drying out issue. Most nutritionists would happily tell you that you should drink about 8 cups of water a day, that is 64 oz of water, that is about 2 liters. For those who are still not getting the picture…. walk to your kitchen… WAIT before you go let me finish… then pull out a measuring cup that says 1 cup on it, fill it with water and then drink it. Ok now do this 8 times … this gives you an idea on how much water your body really needs. Understandable for those who have bodies that are not used to getting this amount of high quality H2O, you are going to pee a lot. It will take about 2 weeks for your bladder to be able to absorb that much water.

Another solution is that you can limit your PG intake in your vape, lean toward higher VG concentrates so there is not as much PG in your mouth stealing your water intake. Understandably, drinking water constantly is not ideal, but again if you want to avoid being lightheaded, dizzy, and having cotton mouth, unfortunately, this is the only answer at this time.

Something to think about:

Vapers, do you have any other tips on how someone can remain hydrated while vaping?

I found drinking/sipping on coconut water helps me keep hydrated while vaping.

  • I dislike drinking unadulterated water, however I suffer with a dry mouth as a side effect of my medications. So I’ve started adding Nuun isotonic tablets to my water (of course other products are available, but I get on best with this one) and now I stay hydrated. As you say, it’s amazing how pale pee will get!

Just one note, the 8 cups a day is how much water you need to intake per day, but this includes water absorbed from food and other drinks. So if you’ve just had a big bowl of soup, some of that counts! And isotonic drinks can be a great substitute for water – the website of my favourite explains how the subtle flavour encourages your brain to drink more and how the chemical balance means it is absorbed quicker than water alone.

So that’s my suggestion for staying hydrated – if you can’t tolerate water or find it does little for you, get some isotonic tablets and keep a tube handy.
