Meet Mt Baker Vapor – Michael’s Story

I tried my first cigarette 13 years ago, I was 14. This is an all too familiar story for a lot of us. I didn’t care for it much and didn’t pick up the habit at that time. Fast forward a year, and I was hooked.

On August 23rd, 2012 I lit the last cigarette in my final pack and picked up an extremely over priced ego-c starter kit. The investment was daunting at roughly $120 but turned out to be one of the best purchases I had ever made. $120 isn’t that much money in retrospect, however for a poor college student at the time it’s amazing I could even muster up the funds. Who would have known the journey this exciting piece of technology would bring into my life?

I am one of the lucky ones, the moment I loaded that first bottle of Ry4 into my tank I knew I was done with cigarettes. There was no backsliding for me; I was done. Being a smoker for 10 years was not an option, it was a title I could not afford to receive and I never did.

I soon discovered a huge world of people like me making the switch,  /r/electonic_cigarette was a huge resource for me. I spent hours combing through posts and asking questions. Through this resource, I soon found Mt. Baker Vapor who offered much lower prices on juice than I was currently paying, and with the added bonus of being based in the same town I lived in. MBV was a warehouse only at the time. However, I visited them once to address a battery issue I was having (turned out to be user error). This is the day I met James Thompson. James was alone at the warehouse and chatted with me for a few hours about vaping, his story and the business in general. His passion was apparent. I instantly became a loyal MBV customer. It helped that James hand-delivered packages to my front porch the day after I placed my order.

Six months into vaping I had gotten a lot more serious. I was still vaping my MBV juice, but instead of the ego-c I had moved on to a Provari and carto tank. I was browsing Reddit when I saw that MBV was hiring and knew I had to apply. I was offered a job in February of 2013. Things were a lot different back then. It was just me and 8 other guys on staff who did it all: mixing, packing, shipping, deliveries, and customer service.

Mt Baker Vapor was originally just a job to have while getting through college, however the passion for the industry was too contagious to leave. As we expanded, it became more and more apparent that we were a part of something special, and I wanted to be around to see it all pan out. One day while doing customer service I came across an email from Jamison Land that would change my direction in the company. Jamison is Beefcake the Mighty from the popular metal band Gwar. Jamison was inquiring about MBV providing endorsement opportunities.  Being a huge fan of the band, I requested that I headed this project. I worked on this project on my off hours and eventually built an endorsement program for MBV featuring bands such as Gwar, Whitechapel, Lamb of God, and Steel Panther. This launched me into my marketing path at MBV where I had the pleasure to work hand in hand with Jamison Land and Nick Ries, who is head of R&D at MBV, to create the line of Gwar Fluids.

DC-GWAR

These days I still maintain these endorsements but have also moved on to head the marketing department at Mt Baker Vapor. In this department I work with many talented and passionate individuals who truly care for the industry and community just like me. My passion for the industry continues to grow as I approach 2 and a half years detached from being a smoker. It’s amazing to watch the industry grow as a whole, and watch individuals on their own unique path of making the switch. Whether someone is lucky like me and the switch is seamless or they transition gradually it is equally rewarding to see them turn what once seemed like an insurmountable task into one that is truly obtainable.

It’s amazing how in life small moments can have huge impact. I always knew that quitting cigarettes would positively impact my life, but I never imagined it would be to this degree. Quitting cigarettes didn’t just change my health; it shaped my life in many more ways. The amount of friends I have made in the industry is overwhelming. I have a job that is amazingly rewarding, and I am able to do things I would never have thought I would be doing.

I am so excited to watch the industry and community continue to grow as we make this journey together. It’s very rare to find something that unifies so many diverse individuals but if you are reading this you have found it too.

Something to think about:

What unforeseen aspects of your life were changed by making the switch?

Vape on my friends!

Great story Michael! Very similar reasons for myself to make the switch. Vape on bro!

I relate to your story. I quit my 37 year smoking habit. January 30th is my 1st day tobacco free! I tried quitting many times, in many ways, over the years. From the moment I bought and tried my vaporizer, I haven’t felt the need to smoke a cigarette. In fact, I tossed a 1/2 pack of cigarettes away! For me, this is a true miracle.

I feel better in soo many ways. I have loads more energy. I can smell and taste, like I haven’t been able to do, since I was a child. I also love that I don’t smell like an ashtray. I work at an elementary school and the way I radiated cigarette smoke, had become problematic because it literally made my boss (the principal) feel sick!

I just discovered Mt. Baker Vapor a few days ago, and I’m in love with your interactive website! I’m broke, after buying my 1st vapor kit & juice locally, but I can hardly wait for my next paycheck,, so I can buy your e-juice online.

My biggest fear is WA State gutting the Vapor industry. I know the big pharma/medical complex, that has control of our government, would much rather have me strung out on tobacco & sickly. My Mother died of COPD 3 years ago, and her Dad (my grandpa) died of COPD. Being the 3rd generation to die from COPD from years of cigarette smoking is not the legacy I want to leave my children.

I’m soo very new at this new venture in my life, so any information on how I can join my vapor community to stop WA State from decimating the only thing that has successfully help me quit the smoking habit, would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for all you do, Mt. Baker Vapor!

    • Congratulations on making the switch and welcome to the MBV Family! The best way to stand up and speak out is simply to contact your local legislation and let them know how vaping has positively impacted your life, and the effect their legislation will have on you. The more voices the better.

Any questions, let us know. We’re here to help! Vape on!

Thanks for the feedback, Michelle. Shucks, if I lived closer to you folks, I’d apply for a part-time job at Mt Baker Vapor, myself. LOL

I just wanted to say that I got busy, after our postings, and contacted my State Reps, opposing the proposed anti-vaping legislature. I also looked up Gov. Jay Inslee’s Facebook page and left him a private message.

The Vaping communities of WA State need to unit & make one gigantic voice that can’t be ignored!

    Go Team Mt Baker Vapor!

    ~always Maria.

    Great story Michelle.

I live in WA but this is Western Australia the nanny state in Australia. Our beloved State government banned the sale of vap equipment last year which put our local and excellent supplier, Vape Bar in East Victoria Park, out of business overnight.

I’m not sure what they hoped to achieve by doing this as we no longer have a place where newbies can talk to people and look at equipment to get an idea what it is all about. A lot of these people are the type that will fall off the radar and continue smoking.

I was fortunate to have a couple of young family members vaping so they introduced me to it and although I’m not totally smoke free I smoke less than 20% of what I did 12 months ago.

I’m an old bugger and a bit of a geek so have experimented with some gear (and enjoy building my own coils) but what I enjoy doing is encouraging many others to give it a go and usually send them to yourselves for their initial starters kits and juice. There are so many stories around about where juice comes from and what’s in it that I tell them yours is tried and tested.

It is interesting that you cannot buy vape gear in West Aust nor nicotine juice in Australia but they allow the sale of nicotine inhalers as a stop smoking aid!!!!!!! go figure.

    Keep up the great work.

Michael, great story. I smoked for many years, two packs a day, and discovered vaping. I have not had a smoke since March 3, 2014 when I got my first e-cig. I now use a Vamo II and keep it full of Mt Baker juice. The threads where the tank attaches have gotten messed up, but it still works. I am going to check out your Lotus Jellyfish for my next mod. I want a box type next time. Maybe I will not knock it over. Cannot beat Mt Baker for great prices and awesome juice. Thanks for being there. Jim

Michael….Marketing Director? Does that mean you’ll help MBV sell more stuff? That’s funny, because I don’t think MBV needs to see more stuff. Why? Well, when I ‘earn’ a free sample of ejuice by buying a big bottle, I never receive the ejuice that I ask for in the Comments Box. Why not? Well I asked MBV that very question and was told it’s because they simply don’t bother to read what their customers write in the Comments box. I guess they’re too busy filling orders. Hence, I end up with a sample MBV chooses for me instead of one I’d like to try. They usually choose to give me a Watermelon sample, which I hate, instead of a sample I think I might like and might want to buy more of. Long story short, I don’t think MBV needs a “Marketing Director” because it looks like they’re too busy filling orders to notice the free juice samples their customers request. Let me know if you’d like to buy some Watermelon juice samples. And congratulations on your new job with MBV, should be a real cushy job. 🙂

    • I’m sorry to hear about your frustration with your freebie experience. Allow me to clarify, our freebie policy changed in November. We no longer offer custom freebie’s with orders. We now provide a free 5ml sample freebie with every order. All freebies are 0nic and pre-steeped with random flavor profile selections. For more information regarding our freebie policy, please see our announcement here: http://blog.mtbakervapor.com/freebie-sample-packs/

Rest assured, we do read our customers comments, and do care about your experience.

Hello everyone! Today I am currently 5 weeks cigarette free! I love it. I am 30 y/o and had been smoking heavily since I was 12. Newport has just lost one of it biggest customers. I’m from a small town in Indiana. My state is making this process of banning/regulating/ taxing e-cigarette happen quicker than I expected. Just to point out some positives from my life since I smoked my LAST cigarette on January 12, 2015. My favorite example, I don’t stink anymore! My fiance loves it. #2 favorite reason, I can finally breath with feeling short of breath. I have a very physical job as an EMT. Other people depend on me to make live saving interventions at times. I have become able to with stand longer periods of time without stopping due to being short of breath. Its always about money in the world we live in. Not for me. Money can always be made and found. We can not get our bodies back once destroyed. I support, endorse, and promote vaping. Thank you Mount Baker Vapor for being a huge asset to this new way of life. This story resembles my vaping experience in regards to a seamless transition to an overpriced, but godsend device. That’s crazy about Gwar! I have seen the juice line on the website but never made the connection. I remember as a kid buying these band trading cards from the gas station instead of candy on Sunday mornings before church. This Gwar card was def the craziest shit I’d ever seen. It must have been 1994. I’ve only vape for about 3 months now. As soon as I picked up the istick and nautilus minie I was over the cigs. Quickly moved on to the xpro m50 with a few RDAs and now dream setup Apollo Mech with the Doge. I’ve got a knack for wrapping coils.

    P.S.
super happy I found MBV. I recently relocated to Alabama and my orders are delivered in 3 days! Outstanding service thus far, and great juice. I am a dealseeker. I usually take a chance with a flavor and order the big bottle and am all in for about 2 weeks.
