Let’s start off with some fun fact about the 4th of July.
It was on this day in 1776 that Congress accepted the declaration Jefferson had drafted. Thomas Jefferson wrote this article on a laptop. Not today’s kind of laptop, but one from before. It was a little table that would sit in your lap, and you could write on it.
Before it was accepted, every man signed on July 2nd except two. The two that waited until July 4th were John Hancock and Charles Thompson.
Seven of the signers of the Declaration attended Harvard in Massachusetts.
America used the Declaration of Independence to revolt from England and bring charges against the British King.
The White House held its first 4th of July party on July 4th, 1801.
July 4th was not a holiday until established by the government in 1870.
The oldest celebration of Independence Day is the parade in Bristol, Rhode Island. The celebration has been going on for 231 years.
Independence Day is an important holiday for America. It declared America’s independence from England.
