In general, the UK seems to be leaps and bounds ahead of the United States in their acceptance of vaping as a method for quitting cigarettes. This is seriously benefitting their public health outlook, while the U.S. is taking time to warm up to idea of making the switch. The number of smokers in the UK fell from 20.1 percent to 17.2 percent and this is attributed to the popularity of e-cigarettes. Public Health England touts vaping as a healthier alternative to combustible smoking. They say that it “may be 95% safer than smoking tobacco.” Because they generally accept that vaping is safer, they don’t have the misconception that the U.S. does. Americans believe that vaping is just has harmful, if not more harmful, than traditional smoking.
65 percent of Americans believe vaping is harmful. But a new study released by Cancer Research UK, seriously discredits those beliefs. Cancer Research UK conducted a long term study which is the first of its kind. This study analyzed the effects of vaping “by looking at long-term human body-level exposure.” The study concluded that vaping is safer than smoking combustible cigarettes. Scientists looked at five groups. They were traditional smokers, former smokers who now vape, former smokers on NRTs, and current smokers who also vape. The last group may also use NRTs.
Cancer Research UK found that the NRT only and vaping only group had “significantly lower levels of carcinogens than combustible cigarette-only, smokers of both cigarettes and e-cigs, and smokers of cigarettes who are also NRT users.”
The majority of traditional smokers die due to cancer and high levels of a chemical called NNAL causes cancer. Ex-smokers who now vape had levels of NNAL 99.7 percent lower than traditional smokers. Seemingly, this long-term study, the first of its kind, conclusively proves that vaping IS safer than cigarettes.
Lion Shahab, one of the scientists working on the study is quoted as saying:
“The take-home message for smokers and e-cigarette users is that using e-cigarettes long-term is likely to carry substantial health benefits. This is certainly in relation to cancer risk, compared with continued smoking. E-cigarettes are certainly safer than combustible cigarettes.”

For our flavor spotlight this week, we are going over one of our favorite menthol flavors, Spearmint E-Juice! Spearmint E-Juice is classically cool with a sweet flavor, perfect for the summertime and for those that like a sweet, menthol flavor. Here is the product description: We could’ve been overzealous and named our cool, minty vape– garden mint, common mint, lamb mint or even mackerel mint, but we decided to stick with Spearmint.
It is a simple flavor, but with a fascinating history. Let’s go over the history of Spearmint E-Juice!
Spearmint, whose scientific name is Mentha spicata, was brought to Europe by the Romans. It is native to the Mediterranean and common names for this mint include lamb’s mint, garden mint, Our Lady’s mint, and sage of Bethlehem. The Lamiaceae, or mint, family is very extensive with over 30 species (spearmint being one). However, only those of the Mentha genus are referred to as “true mints”. Mints are able to cross breed very easily, which create hundreds upon hundreds of hybrids. When Europeans brought the plant over to North America, it thrived and naturalized throughout the continent.
In Chinese medicine, Spearmint is used for sore throats, the flu, inflammation, head colds, headaches, gas, and digestive issues. According to the Chinese, when Qi (or life force), becomes stagnating in the liver, the use of Spearmint can clear it.
The name “mint” actually derives from ancient Greek and Roman Mythology. The goddess Persephone was jealous of Pluto’s love for the nymph Minthe. Persephone transformed her into an herb. Because Pluto could not change her back, he made sure her scent would always be smelled throughout gardens. Pliny the Elder suggested that students use mint to stimulate their minds for studies, whereas Aristotle forbade soldiers from smelling mint before battle because he though it may make them cowardly. Spearmint has been used for centuries to repel rodents. Mints were also used as teas during the American Revolution because English tea was so heavily taxed.
Nothing taste as real as Spearment. My favorite flavor by far.
Used to smoke newport cigs. This has a refreshing spearmint taste with no harsh aftertaste.
Love this juice, tastes exactly like Wrigley’s Doublemint gum. Amazing!

It is constructed with Zinc Alloy and ts panels are made of carbon fiber. It emits 17 W of power. It can be used as a restricted direct to lung or mouth to lung device because of the adjustable airflow.
The Lost Vape Orion Q is a follow up to the Lost Vape Orion. The Lost Vape Orion included a DNA Go Chip and fired up to 40W. The Lost Vape Orion also featured a replay function and wattage adjustments. The Lost Vape Orion Q does not have these features.
This device has great battery life and is very compact. Typically with heavy use I can get almost a full day out of the battery. The flavor of the pods is also really good. On average I get about a week out of a pod before it starts to taste burnt.

We don’t need to remind you not to vape on airplanes. It is illegal and can get you in a lot of trouble. There are certain rules to follow when traveling with your vape supplies, and vaping in the airplane bathroom is definitely not allowed.
Apparently Grant Gustin, star of The Flash, didn’t get the memo. On a Compass Airlines flight from LA to Vancouver, he set off the smoke detector with a cloud of vapor. Apparently, his clouds were bad enough that flight attendants put oxygen masks on. The vapor made its way up to the cockpit, and even the pilots were quite concerned.
Grant Gustin was let off with a warning and the plane wasn’t delayed and was not forced to land, even though there was a lot of worry over the incident. Grant Gustin had no comment, nor did The CW (the network The Flash airs on).
This serves as a warning to vapers everywhere — incidents like this make us all look bad. Here is a recap of what to do with your vape when traveling: “battery-powered e-cigarettes, vaporizers, vape pens, atomizers, and electronic nicotine delivery systems may only be carried in the aircraft cabin (in carry-on baggage or on your person),” according to the Transportation Security Administration (TSA).

You’ve heard the story before — your friend picked up vaping three years ago and hasn’t had a combustible cigarette since — or maybe this is your story. This is extremely common in the vaping world to hear, and in fact, a recent CDC report shows that more smokers are using vaping to quit than NRTs (Nicotine Replacement Therapies). 60% smokers trying to quit last year used a vape. Personally, I started on an AIO four years ago then shortly graduated to a box mod. Haven’t smoked since. These stories are countless and I have heard hundreds of them. Using vaping to quit is an effective means of harm reduction, according to many different experts.
So why does the FDA want to ban vaping, or at least seriously regulate it? Here’s what the CDC says, “There is no conclusive scientific evidence that e-cigarettes are effective for long-term cessation of cigarette smoking. E-cigarettes are not approved by the FDA as a smoking cessation aid.”
Tell that to the many people I know who have been off cigarettes 4+ years due to vaping — many of whom have transitioned to either 0 nic or no device at all. Many people don’t know that Big Pharma and the FDA/CDC have a lot to lose if the NRT market tanks. Big Pharma would lose billions of dollars just from that niche market, and as vaping takes over, they are getting hit where it hurts. The FDA gets a kickback every single time they approve an NRT or medication product for use, something that isn’t happening with using vaping to quit. So, it stands to reason that they don’t want to support vaping and would rather back more “traditional” methods. It seriously benefits them and their agenda.
After the CDC published the results of their survey, it proved what we already knew — that more and more people are using vaping to quit and are doing so successfully. See the results of the survey below:74.7% of respondents claim to have tried multiple NRTs simultaneously during their last attempt to quit smoking.

According to the Harm Reduction Journal, and a scientific Juul Vape Study, a quarter of smokers are able to fully quit combustible cigarettes after vaping for a month. Moreover, over half are able to quite after vaping for 3 months.
This Juul Vape Study focused specifically on smokers using Juul-devices. It sampled a group of 15,000 traditional cigarette smokers and followed them as they attempted to switch over to the pod-system.
Another finding in the study, which flies in the face of acts of regulations, shows that flavors (like mint and mango), increase the chances of smokers being able to give up combustible cigarettes for good and make the switch. The Juul Vape Study helps to bolster the company’s ascertain that their product, and other vapes, help smokers to quit and use a healthier alternative.
CDC data from 2017 shows that smoking is down 67% from 1965, especially within the past couple of years. This decline correlates with a rise in the popularity of vaping. Previous studies have shown that vaping does in fact help people to quit smoking.
With the recent flavor ban in San Francisco, as well as the FDA looking to enact regulations forcing vape companies to get literally all old and new juices approved, it seems that there is a war on vape juice flavors. Looking at a new study, this could actually be incredibly detrimental to vapers, especially those who have used the devices to quit smoking. Vape juice flavors have been key for many former smokers, who actually prefer fruit and dessert flavors to tobacco and menthol.
In the peer-reviewed research set forth by the Harm Reduction Journal, Dr. Christopher Russell said, “The results show that non-tobacco flavours, especially fruit based flavours, are being increasingly preferred to tobacco flavours by adult vapers who have completely switched from combustible cigarettes to vapour products.”
The Centre for Substance Use Research conducted this survey, which is the largest of its kind to focus on vape juice flavor’s role in harm reduction. It polled 20,000 current vapers. Of over 20,000 vapers, 16,000 completely switched from smoking to vaping, where 5,000 were still doing both. Many started out vaping on tobacco flavors, but quickly transitioned to fruit or dessert flavors. 82.9% preferred fruit or fruit beverage flavors and 68.5% preferred dessert/pastry flavors. Tobacco and menthol were 5th and 6th on the list of preferred flavors. The study found that vapers who quit smoking are sustained by non-tobacco vape juice flavors. Taking those away, like in San Francisco, is a recipe for disaster and many would likely revert to the more harmful habit of analog cigarettes. Not only that, but those who are on the fence about switching or may switch in the future, may be dissuaded if these enticing options are not available. First time uses of vape juice flavors also saw a major increase in fruit/dessert and a major decrease in vapers starting out on tobacco or menthol flavors.
Since the FDA recently came out and finally admitted that vaping is not as harmful as combustible cigarettes, we should all be on the same team in terms of smokers switching over (and staying switched). Getting rid of vape juice flavors and reducing the ability of vape companies to produce a variety of good juices, decreases the likelihood that smokers will make the switch. If the CDC and FDA truly care about American’s health, then they will back the competition and innovation of the vape industry and their ability to produce a variety of enticing products and flavors. This is the only way to promote harm reduction, which has already saved countless lives.
