“Hey, you guys!” (spoken in Sloth’s voice from the Goonies film)
Did everyone have a good weekend? I sure hope so.
Aside from the deluge of rain we Arizonans experienced over the weekend and the new leak in my roof that I now have to deal with (friggin’ A), my weekend was alright.
Backtracking through the weekend: Sunday was a relaxing day, spent mostly with my niece and nephew. Cleaning up the yard after that torrential downpour ate up most of my Saturday. And Friday, well Friday, that day was all me.
So, with the Friday evening at my full disposal, I decided to call up a friend to see what her plans were. Learning that she, too was looking for something to do, we both agreed to take a trip downtown to this thing called, First Friday.
What is First Friday? Well, the short version is that it’s a Phoenix based, Art Walk, held every first Friday of the month, along a stretch of road closed off to all traffic. During this short 4-hour event, hundreds, maybe even thousands of people crowd the streets and visit the many shops, studios and restaurants seeking to view the beautiful artwork on display.
One visit to the First Friday Art Walk and you will easily see how human expression is truly limitless. Displayed along the walls inside the many different studios were some of the coolest oil and acrylic paintings, pencil sketches and photographic images that I’ve seen in quite a while. I must admit, I felt a bit envious throughout the night.
Outside, along the streets, people performed their songs, raps and dance moves to crowds of fascinated onlookers. I met this old, wrinkly man with dreadlocks three feet in length and as thick as a baseball bat. Although, I had no idea why he was out there, he was clearly being expressive in his own way as crowds of people gathered around just to stare as he simply sat there silently in his La-Z-Boy.
As the night progressed and as I gazed upon such uniquely, creative expression, I got to thinking about the vape culture and the activity known as, “Cloud-Chasing”.
For those who don’t know what cloud-chasing is, it is the activity of blowing large clouds of vapor using an electronic cigarette. A quick google search of the activity will generate thousands of spectacular cloud configurations. You’d be amazed.
As you know, Mt Baker Vapor is and will always be an advocate for those we serve, which is why we want to lay eyes on your vape expression. How do you express yourself through vaping? Is vaping important to you? If so, send us an image of you expressing yourself through this alternative lifestyle behavior. The image can be of you creating a breathtaking cloud, a mod you’ve modified or enhanced. The image can be of you and a friend vaping under a tree, staring out at the lake. It can be anything so long as it’s clean. If your mother would look the other way, then it probably won’t slide with upper management here. With your images, our hope is to get them up and displayed during a First Friday event allowing the community to view a truly original art form. Who knows, maybe someone will be interested in your vape expression!
