Smok is a company synonymous with quality. Their mods are consistently looked to for their innovative designs and boundary pushing technology, this includes the H-Priv 2. This Kit is the long-awaited update of the original H-Priv Kit. Smok’s focus for the update of this device has been on the overall aesthetics of the product as well as updating and improving the finish. Rather than using a basic paint and color scheme, Smok has designed the H-Priv 2 with what they refer to as a Prism design. The prism design of the H-Priv 2 matches the cobra pattern drip tips that Smok is including with all TFV12 Prince Tanks. There is also a plastic casing over the prism design which covers most of the device, which is sure to preserve the looks of the mod by protecting against chipping and scratching of the paint. Carbon fiber inlays act as an accent to the prism color scheme. The original was utilitarian, whereas the H-Priv 2 was designed to be eye catching and has the look of a high-end device.
Mechanically, the device is almost the same as its predecessor. The screen (user interface) is still positioned on the top of the device. The user interface is a small OLED screen with all necessary information. The functionality and navigation of the menu options is also the same. Personally, I feel these are pros. The small screen means that it will not be a drain on battery life. A significant number of devices on the market today focus on flashy large user interfaces with flashing lights and color options that sacrifice battery performance for gimmicks. It’s nice to see that Smok has produced a product that will turn heads while still being functional.
It does appear that Smok has made improvements to the side firing mechanism and the chassis. The side firing bar feels more substantial and durable and provides the perfect amount of resistance for a responsive feel. The chassis has been reduced in size, being built perfectly around the battery sled. This gives the device a sleek and compact feel that fit it perfectly into any user’s hand. This mod is also lightweight. Gone are the days of bulky, cumbersome box mods. The sliding battery door of the device has also been improved. There is no rattle or slack on the battery door. The battery door fits securely when the 18650 batteries have been placed into the device. Smok has also added a tab that slides into place when closing the battery door for added security.
The H-Priv 2 is a 225W Dual 18650 battery box mod with a wattage range of 1-225W. It has extensive temperature control suite that acommodates various wire types. Adjustments can be made to wattage in temperature control mode, which is nice because not all devices offer this. This feature really brings out the best in the temp control function. It can update firmware via usb port. Smok has even included a setting in the menu to help navigate updates. Updates for firmware will be available directly through Smok’s website. Smok has manufactured five new coil styles for this device including the V8 Baby Q4 0.4Ω and the V8 Baby T12. The V8 Baby T12 can be purchased in Light editions which light up when you fire your device. The colors are red, green, and orange.
