DIY E-Juice Basics [UPDATE]

Making Your Own Premium e Juice – The Risks

The sky is the limit as far as e-juice flavors go. Companies offer all kinds of flavors, but sometimes we all want something unique to us and fills the perfect flavor; it’s called DYI E-juice.

With a few ingredients and a bit of mixing, you can treat your throat and tastebuds to the perfect vaping experience. But as you’ll learn later, making your own e-cigarette juice isn’t as easy as one initially thinks.

Update: As of August 4th, 2016, DIY Supplies are no longer available. We apologize for any inconvenience.

What’s Inside A Premium e Juice?

e Juice is made up of 3 to 4 easy-to-find and simple ingredients: Unflavored nicotine, flavoring, Vegetable glycerine (VG) and Propylene glycol (PG).

The last two ingredients – PG and VG – require a simple balancing act. VG is a thick substance and produces vapor. PG, on the other hand, is a gluey substance that gives your draw a throat hit.

Many e-juices out there come at a 50/50 mix. For your DIY premium e-juice, it’s up to you to decide. Want a stronger flavor and throat hit? Then going for a 80% PG/20% VG concentration is the way to go. If you want more vapor, then go for a 20% PG/90% VG concentration.

But while finding the essential ingredients and mixing the PG and VG is easy, there are some essential reminders and warnings you need to keep in mind.

Not All Flavorings Are Created Equal

Picking your e-juice’s flavor goes beyond what your tastebuds like. This requires a lot of experimentation – trying out the same flavorings from different suppliers to find one that you like. The process also calls for research – checking out vaping communities and forums in search for the right recommendations and suggestions.

Aside from that, you also need to realize that not all flavorings are e-juice-friendly. Some are not water soluble. There are others that have components that aren’t suitable for vaping. Long story short, picking the flavoring for your DIY, premium e-juice is a lot more complicated than simply the e-juice flavor of your choice. Finding vape-friendly flavoring is key.

Nicotine Is a Toxic Substance

Most of the unflavored, pure-grade nicotine you’ll come across with have extremely high concentrations. That’s because they’re meant to be diluted with VG and PG.

When working with unadulterated nicotine, one should take extra precaution. It’s not just addictive, it’s also highly toxic and is dangerous in large doses. Just like with e-juice, you should keep it out of children’s reach, away from pets and you should wear proper gear when diluting nicotine because it can be absorbed through the skin.

Do You Have The Right Gears?

As mentioned earlier, mixing undiluted nicotine with other e-juice ingredients requires precision and precaution. And you can only be precise if you have the right gears for mixing. Before you even think about creating your own premium e juice, check if you have the following:

  • A funnel
  • An eye-dropper and syringes
  • Empty bottles or cartridges
  • Latex gloves and safety goggles
  • Labels
  • A calculator (or even better, an e-liquid calculator)

Also, to avoid any extra stuff getting in your e-juice, a clean work area is also preferred.

Bottom Line…

Creating your own premium e-cig juice is possible, but it entails risk, a lot of time-consuming research and experimentation.
