Flavor Sensitivity

Perhaps there is no state more embroiled in vaping advocacy and suppression than the great state of New York. On the one hand, you have New York City mayor Bill De Blasio signing a bill to hike cigarette prices to a minimum of $13 per pack in an effort to get the city’s estimated 900,000 smokers to let go of the deadly habit. And on the other hand, you have those like Manhattan Assemblywoman, Linda Rosenthal, who wants to ban the sale of flavored e-cigarette liquids to curb teen vaping. Again, with supposedly “little research” there are those who still associate the assumed dangers of vaping with the well-known dangers of smoking.

The Mighty Regulators and Their High-Handed Ways

Compliance, compliance… compliance. Y’know what, let’s go ahead and toss on one more “compliance” just for good measure.

Sheesh. Whoever said changing lives was easy, sure had it all wrong.

For all those who don’t know, or didn’t know, the FDA regulations came into effect on August 8th, 2016. From the 8th on, only vaping products that are already on sale will be allowed to be sold for the next six years; a deadline that previously was two years until a recent FDA change. After these six years, only FDA compliant products will be allowed to be sold in the US, at an astronomical cost. These regulations differ vastly with the Tobacco Products Directive (TPD) which is a directive of the European Union which places limits on the sale and merchandising of tobacco and tobacco related products in the EU. Within all member states of the European Union, e-cigarettes now have to adhere to certain standards. Nicotine levels have an upper limit of 20mg/ml, e-liquid tanks are to be no large than 2ml, advertising has been severely reduced and there is a 6 month wait to market for new products. In May of 2017, the Tobacco Products Directive came into force.

Vaping Abroad – Part Three

Nottingham Healthcare NHS Trust Foundation is giving mental health patients free e-cigarettes as part of a plan to provide their patients with a healthier alternative to smoking. The Nottingham Healthcare NHS Trust Foundation is handing out E-Burn (a low security risk e-cigarette) as part of their intake process. This is part of a national movement in the UK to further the use of e-cigarettes to reduce the number of smokers and to create more smoke free facilities.

Vapor Visuals Abroad: Downtown Glasgow

Welcome vape fans! This is the first installment of my twenty-part tour of the United Kingdom. Join me in exploring what these cities have to offer and find out where you can buy your favorite MBV E Juice along the way. My first stop of the tour is Scotland’s largest town, Glasgow. Originally founded during the 6th century by Saint Mungo, Glasgow has grown from a small church village into a sprawling metropolis. Over 615,000 people currently live in the city and over 1.8 million populate the surrounding metro. In 2015, it was estimated that over 7% of Scottish people vape and with Glasgow accounting for 1/3 of the country’s population this seems like the perfect place to start our journey.

MT BAKER VAPOR — What inspires you?

When Hurricane Harvey made landfall in coastal Texas as a Category 4 hurricane, I received a phone call in the middle of the night from a good friend asking that I pray for him and his family. He was a newlywed at the time and had just moved into his first home. As the storm battered his city and neighborhood, sleep was impossible. Every minute of every day was spent watching the water, hoping against hope that his home would be spared. But then the water came. First it was his small residential street that turned into a river. Then the sidewalks, his lawn and ultimately his driveway. But by good luck, fortune or perhaps simply timing, the levels began to drop just as the water started to creep up his front steps.

The City of Vaperly Love?

Famously known as the “City of Brotherly Love”, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the vape scene in particular, could use a nice big bear hug… or better yet, a break from the levy of taxes imposed by the state legislature last year which has had a detrimental effect on the industry.
